Celebration of Life in Colorado
An end-of-life ceremony is where people come together to honor the unique life of someone who has died. A celebration of life focuses more on celebrating the positive aspects of a person’s life and how their life positively impacted the lives around them rather than mourning the loss of life.
Celebrations of life can be as spiritual or as secular as you like. Each family and individual is unique, and their celebration of life can reflect that! Families often include sharing from loved ones, music, readings or poems, a video montage, and any other reflection of their life the family would like to express.
Many families postpone a celebration of life until after the physical remains have been buried or cremated. It’s not uncommon to delay the celebration for several months afterward. This delay allows time for friends and family to plan for travel and allows some time for grieving.
As your family celebrant, I guide family members in creating a custom and personalized celebration of life service. Assistance on choices for readings and music to writing the obituary and eulogy are provided. We discuss the ambiance of the celebration and share ideas to ensure your loved one’s life is honored with dignity, respect, and love.
Celebration of Life in Colorado
Celebration of Life ideas may include a location outside or in a community area. Celebrate the life of your loved one in a variety of places in nature or in a traditional chapel or church. Choosing a meaningful location such as parks, areas in the mountains, or even a local community center are just a few ideas of places to hold a celebration of life. In addition to sharing memories of the loved one, families frequently serve hors d’oeuvres or prepare a meal and drinks.
It can be fun to honor the deceased by wearing clothes they liked – such as bright colors or dressing like the sports team they were passionate about. Music can also play an essential role in celebrating the passions of our loved ones. Whether reading lyrics from a favorite song or playing some of their favorite music throughout, music is an important aspect of saying goodbye and honoring their life.
Other celebrations of life ideas include rituals such as releasing balloons or lanterns, lighting candles, wearing their favorite colors or jerseys of their favorite team, and creating a memory table for the service. Having a box at the service for people to write letters to the deceased can provide a personalized opportunity to say goodbye. Even naming a star after them can be a beautiful way to commemorate a life. Or you may have another idea – there is no wrong way to celebrate someone’s life. My job as your funeral celebrant is to help portray the life of your loved one and create a service that is personal and meaningful. Designing a service just for your family is one way I can do that.
